Local knowledge
Halifax houses & what they need
Halifax plastering is mostly Victorian. Terraces with lath and plaster ceilings that have started to crack or sag, stone town houses with old lime under a newer skim, and bigger villas with high ceilings and run cornices.
A sagging lath ceiling can be overboarded and skimmed, or taken down to the joists. Overboarding is quicker and far cleaner. Taking it down is right when the joists are uneven or there is wiring to run. We say which on the site visit.
Original cornice and ceiling roses can usually be repaired rather than ripped out. Where a section is too far gone, you hear about it before the work starts, not halfway through.
Halifax is comfortably within our regular patch. We work in the town often, so it's a short trip for site visits or a day's work.

How we quote
Fixed price, not a rough rate
Plastering is priced after a site visit. Access, the condition of what's underneath, ceiling heights, and whether we're working around fitted furniture all feed into the quote. You get a fixed written quote rather than a rough day rate.
FAQs
Plastering in Halifax: common questions
Do you cover the whole of Halifax?
Yes. The town and the HX1, HX2 and HX3 postcodes, out to Sowerby Bridge, Elland and Brighouse. Our ceiling is lath and plaster and it is cracking. Does it need to come down?
Not always. If the plaster is still holding to the laths, the cracks can be taped and the ceiling skimmed. If it has started to bow, we overboard it or take it down. We press-test it on the visit and tell you which. Can you skim over artex?
Usually, if it is sound. Artex put up before 2000 can contain asbestos, so we recommend a sample test before anyone sands or scrapes it. Skimming over a sound surface avoids disturbing it at all.Can you re-plaster one room while we live in the house?
Yes. Most Halifax jobs are one or two rooms in a lived-in house. Floors and furniture covered, dust kept to the room, cleaned down at the end of each day.
